Key Properties

Short pulses

SP05 provides 100 picosecond pulse generation in a highly compact format. Standard pulse durations of 50 ps, 100 ps, and 200 ps are available, supporting precise timing resolution in fluorescence lifetime analysis, gated spectroscopy and time-of-flight sensing.

Tunable repetition rate

Adjustable from single-shot up to 200 kHz, laser supports both continuous and externally synchronized pulsing. This flexibility is essential for handheld spectrometers and multi-parameter diagnostic platforms.

Pulse triggering

An onboard control board ensures a low-jitter electrical trigger-out signal aligned to the optical pulse. Optional TTL trigger-in capability provides additional freedom in system integration.

Narrow linewidth

Single-frequency performance with < 0.06 nm linewidth ensures excellent spectral purity and stability. This enables excitation in time-gated Raman and absorption-based analysis systems.

Compact footprint

With only 135 × 60 × 60 mm including integrated power and control electronics, SP05 is ideally suited for OEM integration in portable analytical devices and compact optical benches.

Beam Properties

M² < 1.3 beam quality enables efficient free-space or fiber-coupled delivery to the point of measurement, supporting tight focusing and high signal-to-noise performance in sensing applications.

Applications

Detector characterization

Short pulse duration, narrow spectral linewidth and low average output power make the SP05 well suited for the characterization of high-speed photodetectors and timing electronics. Turn-key operation and optional API interfaces simplify integration into automated measurement and calibration systems.

Time-gated Raman spectroscopy

The SP05 combines short picosecond pulses with stable single-frequency operation, making it well suited for low-power time-gated Raman spectroscopy and other advanced spectroscopic techniques. Its compact footprint and integrated electronics facilitate straightforward integration into scientific instruments and OEM platforms.

Time-of-flight sensing

Short optical pulses, excellent beam quality and high repetition rates support demanding ranging and sensing applications requiring high spatial resolution and accurate distance measurements. The compact size and low power consumption of the SP05 make it particularly attractive for portable and short-range precision measurement systems.

Underlying Technology

The SP05 is based on Picophotonics' proprietary SESAM-based passive Q-switching technology, combining picosecond pulse durations, stable single-frequency operation and a compact microchip architecture.

Interfaces & Integration

This laser is built to be driven by your system, not babysat by an operator — suited to benchtop research and integrated instruments alike. Available integration interfaces include:

Control & communication

USB and RS-232 control of laser and TEC operation via a documented command interface, so repetition rate, pulse energy and status are under your software's control.

Triggering & synchronization

TTL trigger-in for externally clocked pulse initiation, and a low-jitter optical or electrical trigger-out for precise synchronization with detectors and acquisition.

Optical output & cooling

Free-space or fiber-coupled output with a clean single-frequency spectrum, air or conduction cooling, and documented mounting and thermal-interface guidance.

Compact & robust

An alignment-free, monolithic microchip cavity with no consumable optics holds performance across shock, vibration and temperature — suited to portable, airborne and field-deployed systems.
